How To Choose The Right Work Boots

November 6, 2019

With so many makes and models, it can be tricky to find the right boot for your job.

It is essential to have the correct footwear for your job so that you are comfortable and your feet are protected throughout your work day. Although there are many options to consider, choosing the best fit for your needs doesn't have to be complicated and focus should be on the following factors:

Toe Protection

Whether you work on a construction site or in a warehouse, hazards are everywhere. That is why choosing the correct material for your protective footwear is important. There are three different types of toe caps:

  1. Steel Toes - The most traditional form of protective toe caps, steel toes are heavy and compact. However, if you work in an area that gets cold in the winter, steel toes may not be the best choice as they do not conduct temperature well.
  2. Aluminum Toes - More lightweight than steel toes, aluminum toes are popular for construction workers. Aluminum toe caps are thicker than steel, but they don't conduct cold temperatures and make your feet cold!
  3. Composite Toes - Made of plastic, carbon fiber, and Kevlar, composite toe caps are lightweight but thicker than steel. They do not conduct temperature so they are ideal for employees that work in areas that are metal-free.
Soles

Today, boots have soles that are designed for specific industries. Depending on the traction and stability you need, there are different types of soles to choose from:

  1. Thermo Polyurethane Outsoles - Abrasion- and chemical-resistant, these soles are designed for rough terrain, yet are a lighter weight than rubber options.
  2. Rubber Outsoles - The most common type of sole, rubber is oil, abrasion, and slip-resistant, making it ideal for all types of work areas.
